Description

Magnian Symbiotes are a strain of Symbiote found only in Karga Magna. A Magnian Symbiote can be distinguished by their usually blood-red tint and chunky texture, occasionally accompanied by a multitude of eyes and limbs. ALL Maginan Symbiotes can consume beings that are smaller than them and can take on the physical attributes of those victims, as well as accumulate the victim’s blood and tissue, or “gore substance” into their own Symbiote substance, while absorbing the gore for nutrients over time; however, only a rare few can actually take over and control the actions of a host, a characteristic that Detrakian Symbiotes can do with ease.

The scheming of a Magnian Symbiote must consist of a name related to the medical term of a part in the human body, as well as a skill that can be associated with this particular body part. They must also have a skin-crawling characteristic that can either be physical or behavioral (for example, oozing holes on the surface of their body or jerky movements when they walk or preform any type of action).

All Magnian Symbiotes are as follows…

Name: Neurax
Gender: Unspecified
Age: ???
Origin: Unspecified
Host Preference: Any intelligent race is preferable, so long as they’re weak or injured.
Neurax (the smallest shown above) is the origin of all Magnian Symbiotes. It is the biological template in which all other Magnian Symbiotes are created from.

Neurax is primarily instinctual. Its name is derived from the word “neuro” or brain, due to its knack for attacking the brain and nervous system. Even though Neurax can consume hosts, it is the only Magnian Symbiote that cannot absorb the gore it accumulates, which does cause it to grow and eventually be weighed down. Instead of eventually dying from starvation due to lack to mobility, Neurax disposes of the gore through a series “life spans” which have been separated into four distinct phases which are on a constant repeat. The phases are as follows: Incubae, Larval, Cepholophae, and the “mother grub” phase.

During the Incubae phase, Neurax resides within a host body, feeding off their blood and scrambling their neurological functions to keep them from realizing the danger they are in. As he feeds off of blood and tissue, the host will exhibit symptoms of nausea, weakness, delirium, and the vomiting or coughing up of blood. This phase usually lasts 2-5 weeks, depending on the endurance of the host. Some hosts fall into comas before the phase is over, and if the former or the latter is the case, Neurax will burst from the body of the host and move on to the Larval phase.

The Larval phase is the phase that is shown above. During this phase, Neurax can consume smaller victims whole, and does not need a host to incubate in. During this phase, it can eat small animals like frogs, mice, or sparrow. Once big enough, the third phase begins.

During the Cepholophae phase, Neurax can eat moderately larger creatures, such as cats and dogs. As it grows larger, the gore substance nearly doubles the amount of Symbiote substance in the Symbiote’s body, and a chemical response occurs to better accommodate the rapidly growing amount of gore substance. Since Neurax is already very unstable in its gene-pool, it is during this time that a “mutation” can occur. When a mutation occurs, Neurax will split itself off from the portion of Symbiote substance containing the mutation, and this second half will be left to fend for itself. Sometimes the mutations are so severe, the second Symbiote dies on the spot, but sometimes the newly independent Symbiote will survive and possibly be even more successful than Neurax. Either way, Neurax continues onto its final phase.

The last phase, the “Mother Grub” phase, is when Neurax’s body consists of so much gore substance, it can barely move. During this time, it can consume whole humans. During this phase, survival instincts kick in, and Neurax will attempt find a suitable host to then transfer its original Symbiote substance into. Once a suitable host is found, Neurax will inject itself into the new host and the accumulated gore substance from its previous life cycle will be left behind to deteriorate, starting the process anew in the Incubae phase.

Name: Optic
Gender: Male
Age: ???
Origin: Neurax
Host Preference: Felidae

Optic (the cat-like creature sitting atop Digitrade) was the first Symbiote to split from Neurax and survive. Sadly for Neurax, Optic’s mutated genes were a huge improvement from the original. Optic is very intelligent, able to form full to semi-full thoughts and sentences, though he prefers to keep quite in most cases. He can remove and absorb excess gore on-will without the need of phases or a “life cycle”, and he can create any number of eyes on his body without much hassle on his part. Optic is also the only Magnian Symbiote to have the ability to control hosts before consuming them. He archives his hosts’ memories and keeps them in a sort of mental library, to watch them and learn from them shenever he wants. He values the knowledge in the memories, and he also values “beauty” in a sense, preening the gore substance on his body to prevent in from becoming chunky, as well as etching oriental patterns in the blood, creating depictions leaves or flowers or whatever he feels like etching at the time.

The only problem Optic faces is his severe sensitivity to light. It actually hurts if his eyes stare into direct light, and that includes moonlight, which makes outside travel extremely difficult at any time of day. Because of this, his eyes are almost always closed and he rarely leaves the sanctity of houses or cave systems. Thick forests are adequate coverage, but still pose a threat to his sensitive eyesight. Because of this, Optic was named after the word “optic” or eye.

Name: Pneumax
Gender: Genderfluid
Age: ???
Origin: Neurax
Host Preference: Any species is preferable, so long as they’re sick or terminally ill.

Pneumax (the furthest to the left) was the second Magnian Symbiote to split from Neurax. Pneumax isn’t as intelligent as Optic, but still holds a higher level of intelligence from Neurax, though he doesn’t exactly care about how smart he is. Penumax also lacks the ability to control hosts like Optic, but that doesn’t matter to him either. He doesn’t care about what gender he’s labelled as, so he often fluctuates between male and female depending on what a particular being calls him at that exact moment in time. He seems to live only in the “here and now” and prefers not to dwell on the past or future unless it’s forced upon him.

That being said, Pneumax does have more to him than a lack of interest in everything. This Symbiote in particular seems to only consume beings who are sick or terminally ill, and when he does, the disease infecting the victim is extracted and stored within his chest cavity, along with any excess gore accumulated from said victims. This disease, as well as any other diseases his victims have sustained, is left to fester and multiply and feed on the gore stored with it, like fodder. Pneumax uses his chest cavity to incubate thousands of diseases, before taking the concoction of poisons and using it as a projectile against anyone that poses a threat to him. The two pupils in each of his eyes only add to the accuracy of his shots, leaving previously healthy opponents virtually incapacitated and easily consumable. This characteristic is what gives Penumax his name, which also translates into “pneumatic” or lung cavity.

Name: Digitrade
Gender: Male
Age: ???
Origin: Neurax
Host Preference: Any intelligent race is preferable.

Digitrade (the biggest one, being used as a chair by Optic) is the third Symbiote to split from Neurax. He is primarily instinctual, and unable to form full, coherent thoughts. He can only communicate through animalistic sounds. Digitrade is swift and dexterous, using his six large legs to climb up sleep slopes and nimbly grab his prey. Once a victim has been captured, he uses a mucous-y thread that consists of gore substance to ensnare his victim and adhere them to a surface while he goes out and finds other beings to capture. Once enough victims have been stashed, Digitrade will consume them all in quick succession of one another, before retiring to sleep for several weeks. During the time he is asleep, the gore consumed from those victims is turned into the mucous-y thread that will be used to capture future victims, thus the never-ending cycle repeats.

Digitrade’s name comes from the word “digit” or finger, referring to the finger-like protrusions he uses when doing everyday tasks. He is quiet and solitary, preferring to be alone and take refuge in high places rather than travel on the ground. He can often be found residing high in the canopy of trees or on the walls of tall buildings. He is nomadic, and will usually move miles from his last resting place as a way of ensuring his own survival, though this is all instinctual and not much of a conscious choice on his part.

Name: Vertebrax
Gender: Male
Age: ???
Origin: Neurax
Host Preference: Any intelligent race is preferable, as long as they have O-negative blood.

Vertebrax (the one furthest to the right) is the fourth Magnian Symbiote to survive after splitting from Neurax. Vertibrax is slightly more intelligent than Neurax, but he’s still not as smart as Optic or even Pneumax. From a survival standpoint, Neurax’s splitting from Vertebrax was… probably for the best. Vertebrax has many negative attributes, and although most are small, there is one hindrance that sets a massive hurdle for the Symbiote. He is sensitive to a large number of antibodies found within blood; a common characteristic found within gore substance and a staple of all Magnian Symbiotes. This means he’s picky about who he must consume, and the only type of blood that will ensure he won’t reject it is blood without A,B, or Rh antibodies, or in other words, “O negative” blood. Since this blood type is so uncommon, Vertebrax is often found nearby or within cities, where the different types of blood are most abundant and he has a higher success rate at finding somebody who won’t make him sick.

Vertebrax’s spiny protrusions are made of the bones of his victims and serve as both protection and storage. Within the centers of these bones hold bone marrow where gore substance can be stored away for long periods of time, giving Vertebrax some breathing room in case he is having difficulty finding a victim with a compatible blood type.

This is bloody cool! Both literally and colloquially speaking lol. All of them have a very unique design :D
One question: what's the place they live in like? Are they in a modern day setting or a more ancient one?
Also, what's Karga Magna? And how are the detrakian symbiotes different (other than for their ability to manipulate their victims)?
Magnian symbiotes originate from Neurax. How do detrakian symbiotes come to be instead?
